September School
About September School: At September High School, we have thrived for over four decades as Boulder's longest running independent high school. In the fall of 1973, September High School was one of 5000 independent schools across the nation that opened their doors to students for the first time. Despite the heartfelt efforts put forth by many people, most of these schools were unable to sustain themselves over time. By 2001, all but 2% of these schools had to close.
September School has been successful in large part because of our energetic, committed faculty, who have inspired hundreds of students. We have cared for our community and, in turn, our community has cared for us; over the years we have transformed the lives of hundreds of teens in this community and our community has supported the school's growth into the thriving educational center that it is today.

We believe it is this mutually powerful relationship with our community that has sustained us over time. Students from September School graduate with well-rounded academic skills, in-depth exposure to the arts, and the experience of belonging to a community. This combination prepares the student well for challenges beyond high school. Over eighty percent of September School graduates continue their education at the college or university level. When they leave us, they leave prepared not only for college, but prepared for life.

OUR MISSION: September High School is an intimate and supportive community that fosters individual development and reawakens the love of learning. We empower our students to be critical thinkers, lifelong learners, and responsible citizens.

Emily Shreve
Emily Shreve
Emily Shreve is a Denver based solo vocalist/pianist who has grown into a captivating singer/songwriter with a commanding presence. “[Emily] has a unique vocal quality that sets her apart from her contemporaries… Her music can be quite profound, fierce, but also very straightforward and warm.” (Charlie Sullivan, Colorado Music Buzz 2014) “She builds crescendo swells on the keys that lead you into her musing lyrics and just when they sound the most forceful, she lets them fall faintly into a soft silence. Awesome.” (Hannah Oreskovich, Bolder Beat 2015)

Emily spent her early years as a young performer, but after a necessary 5 year haitus from music, Emily started composing what comprises her current body of work only 2 years ago. It’s quickly becoming apparent that she’s in her element and it’s paying off. Her debut EP, Spirals/Dreams featured some of her compositions recorded live on a grand piano and proved she can put on an impressive performance with only a bare bones setup. She is now about to release her second album entitled Bliss And Gravity featuring lush vocal harmonies done by Shreve herself as well as guest guitars, bass, and drums.

Emily is finding her stride in the Denver scene performing often and connecting with audiences across the front range. If you haven’t seen her live, check out her tour schedule at http://emilyshreve.com/shows. Her new album Bliss And Gravity releases August 28th at the Mercury Cafe at 7:30 PM.
Julian Peterson
Julian Peterson
Growing up in the mountains of Colorado, Julian fostered a music appreciation reflective of the world around him – raw, rootsy, and rich with colors. His music gathers elements from country blues, old r&b and folk music and combines them with a groove-based, indie rock sound.
Peterson’s compelling stage presence is that of an old bluesman. He carries an intense passion beyond his years, trading between soulful vocals, and sweet solo melodies with his 1960’s Gibson. He leads his own trio -Nick D’Agostino (drums) and Reuben Cainer (bass), two dynamic players who aren’t afraid to get dirty and electric, or quiet and tender as the rest of them.

Peterson’s played thoroughly in the New York circuit, as well as in folk and blues festivals along the east coast. He has toured nationally as well, including the first national tour of Greenday’s musical “American Idiot,” where he performed as their guitarist. After living in New York/Brooklyn for seven years, he recently found himself back in his home state of Colorado, performing his own music, and providing guitar support for Megan Burtt & The Cure for Love, and Tape Bleed (formerly Professor Fox Band).
Purple Squirrel
Purple Squirrel
Purple Squirrel plays a rare breed of original instrumental music, infused with modern jazz, funk, rock and blues influences. Based in Boulder, Colorado, the quartet is the brainchild of guitarist Chris Malley and keyboardist Bob Schlesinger. Having played together as sidemen in many other projects, they created Purple Squirrel as their forum for musical mayhem. They have been playing clubs and festivals since 2013, and their CD "Split Shot" is available on iTunes. The rhythm-section roster features some of Colorado's finest bassists and drummers.
