NEVER STOP EXPLORING SPEAKER SERIES FEATURING CONRAD ANKER & JIMMY CHIN
Deep in the Indian Himalaya, 22,000-foot Mount Meru presents the ultimate test to alpinists Conrad Anker, Jimmy Chin and Renan Ozturk. Aiming for a summit atop thousands of feet of sheer granite, their eighteen-day ascent is racked by storm and cold. Delving deep into their souls to find the will to continue, and relying on teamwork and trust, they survive the hardest climb of their careers.

Conrad Anker’s specialty, simply put, is climbing the most technically challenging terrain in the world. This quest has taken him from the mountains of Alaska and Antarctica to the big walls of Patagonia and Baffin Island and the massive peaks of the Himalaya. Conrad’s Antarctic experience spans a decade, with first ascents in three regions. In 1997, Conrad teamed up with Alex Lowe and Jon Krakauer to climb Rakekniven, a 2,500-foot wall in Queen Maud Land. In the Sentinel Range, Conrad climbed the Vinson Massif via three new routes. His climbs in Pakistan’s Karakoram include the west face of Latok II along the “Tsering Mosong” route, which begins at the same height as the summit of Denali, climbs 26 pitches on a vertical cliff and then tops out at 23,342 feet. In 1998, Conrad and Peter Croft made a first ascent of Spansar Peak via a 7,000-foot ridge in one day. In Patagonia, he climbed the three towers of the Cerro Torre Massif. On Yosemite’s El Capitan he joined Steve Gerberding and Kevin Thaw to establish “Continental Drift,” a steep nail-up on the right side. And in Zion National Park, Mugs Stump and Conrad first climbed the intimidating “Streaked Wall.”

Jimmy Chin grew up in southern Minnesota, wondering what life would be like if the landscape weren’t so flat. A summer road trip with his parents to Glacier National Park, when he was ten years old, confirmed for him that someday he would live a life in the mountains. After finishing college, Jimmy set out for a short climbing and skiing road trip. Many years, cars and expeditions later, he’s still traveling full-time. These days, however, his road trips take him a bit farther from home. As an athlete for The North Face, as well as one of the most versatile and sought after expedition photographers in the business, Jimmy has been busy climbing, skiing, exploring and photographing expeditions in the remote corners of the planet. In the past decade, Jimmy has filmed and photographed some of the best adventurers, climbers and skiers in the world, documenting everything from first ascents of unclimbed towers in the Karakoram to ski descents of high peaks in the Himalayas.
