KGNU & Boulder Weekly present
18TH ANNUAL MICROBREWERIES FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
ft: Onda Latin Grass All Stars & Mountain Standard Time
Think Globally, Drink Locally: 20 breweries, $2 pints, 1 planet!
KGNU and the Boulder Weekly proudly present the 18th annual Microbreweries
for the Environment benefit on Friday, April 23 at The Boulder Theater.
Since 1993, the Microbreweries for the Environment benefit has raised over
$110,000 for local environmental causes. The proceeds from this year's
benefit will further the environmental efforts of University of Colorado
Environmental Center, Mothers Acting Up, CU Going Local, and Wildlands
Restoration Volunteers.
Nineteen Colorado microbreweries serve their best beers for only $2 each.
Participating breweries include: Asher Brewing Co., Aspen Brewing Company,
Avery Brewing, Boulder Beer Company, Breckenridge Brewery, Bristol Brewing
Company, Crabtree Brewery, Dillon Dam Brewery, Great Divide Brewing Company,
Golden City Brewery, Fort Collins Brewery, Left Hand Brewing Company, New
Belgium Brewing Company, Odell Brewing Company, Oskar Blues Brewery,
Pumphouse Brewery, Ska Brewing Company, Twisted Pine Brewing, Upslope
Brewing Company.
The evening's entertainment features music by Mountain Standard Time and
Onda’s Latin Grass All-Stars featuring members of Onda and Alex Johnstone of
Spring Creek Bluegrass Band and Stan Sutton of Mountain Standard Time. This
lively music combination of Latin dance grooves and bluegrass twang is sure
to go well with Colorado's finest brews.
Onda (Spanish for "vibe") is a nine-piece Latin dance band that quickly made a name for itself as one of the best dance bands on the Boulder scene. Founded in 2000, its music is a wonderful mix of originals, traditional
Latin standards and rhythms blended with funk, Latin jazz, cumbia, boogaloo,
merengue and modern jam arrangements. Onda's repertoire is diverse and
eclectic. Salsa to Sinatra to Santana and beyond, a wide range of Caribbean
sounds that will move any feet, appeal to any ear. Frontman Roberto
Sequeira heads a crew whose members are veterans of the Boulder/Denver
afro-cuban, jazz and Latin music scene.
Hailing from majestic Nederland, Colorado, Mountain Standard Time brings
"home" wherever they go. A pure mountain folk freak show with Colorado kind jams comprised of the finest Slamgrazz Funk - dirty minor funk mashed head on with rocking grassy originals. Following directly in the lineage of Nederland family: The String Cheese Incident, Yonder Mountain String Band, and Leftover Salmon, MST was brought up properly on the party. In 2009 MST played Wakarusa Music Festival, 10,000 Lakes Festival, and the Telluride Bluegrass Festival contest finals, among other events. Hold on tight and they will take you up that steep canyon road with the river roaring down. Forget the time of day, it's Mountain Standard Time.
The benefit is a zero-waste and carbon-neutral event. We encourage people
to walk, bike, or bus to the event. Doors open and beer tasting starts at
8:00pm, and music will run to 1:00am. Admission costs $22 inclusive of tax
and service charges ($24 day of show). Tickets are available at the Boulder
Theater Box Office (303-786-7030 or www.bouldertheater.com). This event
traditionally sells out in advance.
